ABOUT
We have built a contemporary timber framed addition to a private residence in Cambridgeshire, completed despite tight planning and financial constraints.
The site is a beautiful idyllic open English garden with protected fields to the front and back. The modest £140,000 budget dictated the height and position of the new extension which includes a garage, a bedroom with living area, a storage block and a bathroom with adjoining north facing terrace. The budget also determined that priority was given to a few carefully chosen elements that would best serve the concept. The building resulted in being an essay in an architectural language using a simple construction methodology and crafted from a combination of natural and industrial materials. Simple thoughts were given to circulation and views to maximize the impact of this small structure and bring the garden into the building using large pieces of glass.
