BEACH HOUSE, BRIDGEHAMPTON

the house is located directly on the highest point of the dune

ABOUT

This beach house is a weekend residence located in Bridgehampton, north of New York and is constructed fully in timber.

The house is placed on the tip of the dune with the best possible views of the site. The programme evolved to become two main elements for the massing; a ground floor L-shape block creating a protected courtyard with a second floor block for the parents only with terrace. The master bedroom takes advantage of the best part of the site with a terrace and views to the sea. The suggestion of impermanence was also very welcome as the ocean and the beach landscape was considered a far stronger force. The sense of a more temporary building seemed to allow the project to sit comfortably in its surroundings. The timber screens also protect the swimming pool from the wind and offer semi-private spaces to the bedroom gardens on the lower level.
