This project reimagines a Grade II* listed Georgian townhouse in Bloomsbury, transforming it into a vibrant family home for two renowned fashion designers and their young children. Decades of poorly executed refurbishments had left the nearly 200-year-old property in significant disrepair, with unresolved structural issues and fragile historic details. Our approach was to carefully restore the original character of the Georgian interiors while introducing thoughtful contemporary interventions.

Careful restoration preserved the townhouse’s historic character. Original panelling, doors and architraves were stripped back to their initial state, meticulously inspected and refurbished to ensure continuity with the Georgian interiors. Every intervention was guided by a respect for the building’s heritage, balancing structural repair with the delicate restoration of its listed features.

A contemporary mews extension and link now house the family kitchen and playroom, opening directly onto a landscaped courtyard that floods the home with light and outdoor connection. These modern additions were designed to complement the historic fabric, creating a seamless dialogue between past and present while clearly expressing the building’s function for the family.

Inside, a carefully curated palette of neutral and natural materials creates continuity throughout. Subtle contemporary touches such as marble worktops, oak-lipped laminate cabinetry and a European oak balustrade sit alongside restored Georgian details, weaving a home that is both timeless and distinctly modern.
