This three-bedroom apartment at Lauderdale Tower offers a considered reinterpretation of Barbican domestic architecture, closely following the original layout while introducing subtle adjustments to support modern living. Door positions were refined and furniture carefully arranged to improve circulation and sight lines, preserving the clarity and openness of the plan. These interventions allow the apartment to function more intuitively, without compromising the integrity of the original design.

The layout and material palette take cues from the Barbican’s in-situ concrete structure, with its distinctive texture reflected in a calm and tactile selection of finishes. A thin Corian terrazzo-style kitchen worktop references the aggregate quality of the surrounding architecture while providing a practical and elegant surface for everyday use.
Throughout the flat, materials are chosen for the way they respond to light, touch and daily living. A dark, textured Milliken carpet was deliberately introduced to soften the strong southern light that fills the living spaces, reducing glare while adding comfort and depth. This softness is balanced by crisp detailing and a restrained tonal palette that creates warmth without feeling heavy.

Original timber window frames have been carefully restored and paired with sheer tailored curtains that gently filter daylight and frame wide-reaching city views. Lighting is integrated throughout the apartment and layered to create a welcoming atmosphere, complimented with furniture and fittings by Vitsoe, Vitra and Flos, to offer a quiet reference to the Barbican’s modernist heritage and original show homes.

The bathrooms are designed as calm, generous spaces, defined by large-format tiles, softly layered lighting and carefully positioned fittings that enhance both flow and ease of use. Delivered by our associate company Modern Works, specialists in bespoke Barbican renovations, the project reflects a sensitive and well-crafted approach, resulting in a contemporary home rooted in the character of the Estate.
