We transformed a neglected three-storey shell in Soho into a dynamic mixed-use space for music platform and app ROVR, comprising a basement record shop, a ground-floor coffee bar and a first-floor exhibition area. In line with our sustainable approach, we retained as much of the existing fabric as possible while designing bespoke, demountable furniture systems in natural materials for future reuse.

On the ground floor, we placed the coffee-making process at the centre of the design, beneath a fully openable street-facing sash window. Cherry wood adds warmth and texture, balanced by polished concrete floors and counters.

The basement record shop celebrates music culture, with acoustic ceilings, concrete counters with inset listening stations and bespoke furniture for vinyl and memorabilia. The ladder-like stair from the street creates a journey reminiscent of 1960s Soho and Denmark Street. Subtle references to The Haçienda and original Tower Records storage furniture acknowledge historic music landmarks.

We collaborated with YES Studio to develop graphics and signage applied directly onto architectural surfaces. The overall design reflects the energy and creativity of Soho, creating a building dedicated to music, interaction and discovery.
