Client and owner of Spitalfields Town House

A quiet Victorian warehouse in Spitalfields has been reimagined as a five-storey family home, with only the original façade retained. The building sits within an important terrace row, and the design responds to its historic context while creating a completely contemporary interior.

Bringing light deep into the long, narrow plan was central to the design. Two light wells carve through the house, introducing daylight to every level and creating vertical connections that give the home a sense of openness and flow. The effect is subtle but transformative, animating spaces with natural light throughout the day.

A later extension accommodates the kitchen and dining areas, forming a social hub that seamlessly integrates with the rest of the home. Every element, from bespoke furniture to cabinet interiors, was carefully considered, creating a space that is highly personal, practical, and refined.
To balance the building’s industrial character, a restrained palette of materials—warm timber, soft stone, and subtle metals—was selected. The result is a home where historic heritage meets contemporary comfort, and where light, detail, and materiality combine to create a lived-in, elegant space for family life.
